The following letter is from Albrecht and McIntyre asking RFID Journal and the American Apparel & Footwear Association to reconsider its press ban...

Dear Mark Roberti and Mary Howell,

We ask you to reconsider your ban on press at the RFID Apparel and Footwear Conference to be held at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology next week. We believe industry discussions about putting RFID tracking devices on or into clothing and shoes should be open to the media, if for no other reason than to reassure the public that the technology is not being abused.

As we're sure you're aware, the price of admission and the admission guidelines effectively bar most privacy advocates and researchers from attending the conference. This makes it all the more important that the press be able to cover the event and report the proceedings to the public.

We look forward to hearing from you and hope that RFID Journal and the American Apparel & Footwear Association will open the doors to this event and make your discussions transparent to the public.

Best,

Katherine Albrecht and Liz McIntyre
